When Georgie and I went to Solomon's graduation last August, sixteen new little boys were transferred from Kebebetsehay to Kolfe. We were there when they arrived and so many of them looked scared and sad. We both were very intentional about paying a lot of attention to and hugging on them. We went shopping and got each one a new back pack with toiletries and school supplies to help cheer them up. While we loved on all of them, there were two brothers that stole Georgie's heart. He kept telling me he didn't understand what was happening but he knew we were supposed to be very intentional about getting these boys adopted. Because he is not married he knew he could not adopt them but he knew they were supposed to be adopted by a US family. He took them out to eat, shopping and started writing to them when we got home. When we talked on the phone he would always tell me "You gotta get my boys adopted I!" (My family calls me "I")
Well as the LORD would have it, I got an email from Leslie Kudna one day telling me they were in the adoption process already and felt led to adopt two boys. They were already with Gladney and wanted to know if we knew any boys available at Kolfe. We sent the pictures of "Georgie's boys" immediately and then scheduled a phone call. We talked for about three hours and prayed for the Lord to give them wisdom and direction.
Well we just got this email from them a few hours ago:
Eileen and George
I just wanted to let you know we are back from our first trip to Ethiopia. We passed court on 7/30 so Habtamu and Getaneh officially became our sons. The boys are wonderful. I think we’re all a little nervous, but they used the older boys to translate and ask us lots of questions. We were able to see them every day except one…. we were only supposed to be able to see them 3 times so we skipped Wednesday – We were able to take the boys one day for lunch and a trip to the playground. They seemed to love it and we all had fun climbing around together.
While we were there we ended up buying plates for all the boys and one day we had pizza. We wanted to be able to share a meal with them. All the Kolfe boys are such a joy to be with. I didn’t want to leave each day.
We will be returning in a couple of weeks for our Embassy appointment. The boys will be HOME on September 5.
Eileen, I’m glad to hear Solomon is settling in well.
